PHOTOGRAPHER AND EDITORIAL MANAGER
ABOUT
I was born in Lima, Peru, in 1968, into an artistic family. My early education was at a private religious school in a country marked by political and social unrest. I initially pursued architecture faculty for two years. However, I made a pivotal decision to switch careers and follow my passion by joining the photography staff at the prestigious weekly newsmagazine, Caretas in Lima.
My time at Caretas was formative, refining my photography skills, blending them with the visual concepts of press photography, and adapted swiftly to unpredictable situations. During this period, my appreciation for individuals' stories deepened, emphasizing journalistic ethics amidst societal turbulence. At the time, I was awarded the Rey de España prize in journalistic photography.
Subsequently, I worked at Peru's leading newspaper, El Comercio, as both a photographer and photo editor for ten years. Afterwards, I collaborated with the EFE news agency for seven years. Simultaneously, I was Professor of Photojournalism in Universities over 15 years, as well as delivered photographic workshops and seminars.
In 1998, my first solo exhibition summarized a decade of press photography. It spurred my exploration of Identity, Modernity, and Nation as conceptual pillars for future projects, including global personal exhibitions and undertaken diverse photographic projects for media, corporate and industries, emphasizing culture.
Currently, I reside in Perú, where I pursue commissioned and personal projects.
